County sites will benefit from grants


Klickitat County received $2.75 million in state grant money for economic and community development in 2012.

This money is for two projects: a flex space office building at the Dallesport Airport and the revitalization of the old mill office building in Klickitat as a community center.

Denny Newell, Economic Development and Business Retention specialist for Klickitat County, says that the awards are a 100 percent grant to the county with no payback. Newell works for the county on business infrastructure, new business, and expanding businesses. He is also a grant writer on behalf of the county.
