Eileen Godbey



Marion Eileen Nelson was born in Stillwater, Washington on October 19, 1921 to Jonas Nelson and Elizabeth (Tucker) Nelson-Batten-Furhman. Eileen married Raymond Thayer in 1939 and later Vay Godbey in 1952. She moved to Goldendale in 1955 and worked at Ben Bush’s Variety Store and Slettens Clothing.

Mrs. Godbey was an avid bowler in the 1960’s and loved to play video poker when wintering in Las Vegas. After their retirement, Eileen and Vay spent winters in Las Vegas, Arizona and Mexico.

Mrs. Godbey passed away at her home in Goldendale on January 2, 2013 at the age of 91.

She is survived by her children Ray Thayer (Carole) and Diane Neal-Barrett (Ken); grandsons Scott and Jeff Thayer and John and Jason Neal; great grandchildren Amanda, Scott, Bayda and Dema Thayer and Connor Neal; and great-great granddaughter Lyla Woody.

She was preceded in death by brothers Gorden, Les and Ray Nelson and George and Jim Batten; sisters Virginia (Brown) Ketchin and Ann (Brown) Binkley.

A graveside service was held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Mt. View Cemetery in Goldendale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Eileen’s name may be given to Klickitat Valley Health Hospice or Klickitat County Historical Society. Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.
