Jerry Ross

Gerald “Jerry” Ross, 87, of Goldendale, WA, passed away on Dec. 28, 2012 in Nashua, NH while visiting his daughter.

Jerry was born to Emma and Ralph Ross in Arkansas. In 1936, his father built a home on the back of a truck and the family joined that famous migration from the impoverished South to the golden promise of California. There he came of age finding work in a variety of jobs including coopering for the wine trade, managing hops and rice fields, and doing general house construction.

He married Helen Elizabeth Hobday and lived in Galt, CA before moving to Oregon to follow his dream of being a cowboy. He managed the Lombardi and Widman ranches in Baker City, and ended his career as manager of the Pitcher Ranch in Silver Lake, OR. He retired to Bonanza where he continued to work for local ranchers and was a member of the Klamath Falls Missionary Baptist Church. After his wife died, he moved to Goldendale, WA to be near his son.

He is survived by his brother, JT, sister Drothey, children Charles, Karen (Bossert), Ernest, Jane (Fallon), and Daryl, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife Helen, daughter DeAnna, brother Shelby, son-in-law Bill, and brother-in-law Norman.

A funeral will be held at Davenport’s Chapel of The Good Shepherd in Klamath Falls at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
