Commissioners need to show leadership

To the Editor:

For the second year in a row the Klickitat County budget is being cut. In the case of 2013, if I read the numbers given correctly, the budget is being cut by almost eight percent over last year. At least a portion of this reduction is because the County Commissioners are unwilling to raise property taxes an amount they are allowed by state law.

A result of the cuts, the Sheriff’s office is being cut again. I think the people of Klickitat County need to realize that these cuts will have an effect on public safety in the county. This is being done at the same time as certain types of crime are increasing, as reported by The Sentinel.
