Alice Kaatz

Alice Loraine (Harris) Kaatz was born May 22, 1922 in Laona, Wisconsin to Elmer and Anna (Deau) Harris. On October 22, 1941 she married Elroy Kaatz. In 1953 Elroy, Alice and family moved to Klickitat, Washington, and they raised their children there. After the last child left the house in 1967 she went to work for Underwood Fruit in Bingen until she retired in 1986 at which time they moved to Goldendale. Elroy passed away in 1991.

Alice enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta and Solitaire, and taught all of her family to enjoy those games also, and of course, “Wahoo” for the younger children. She was very good at crafts and knitting and crocheting, and in later years made many afghans for her family and friends and donating them to different organizations around town.

Alice passed away on January 13, 2013 in Goldendale at the age of 90.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia (Jerry) Wamsley of Wasilla, Alaska, Barbara (Keith) Thompson of Goldendale, and Nancy Frodge of Maysville, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren—Sara Johnston and Karl Wamsley, Brian (Aimee) and Troy ( Bri) Thompson, Derrick (Becky) and Brandon Frodge; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends that she has valued having over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elroy M. Kaatz, brother Ken Harris, sisters Iola Novak, Verial O’Donnell, Persis Houle, Carol Harris and Gertrude Harris.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on January 21, 2013 at Mt. View Cemetery in Goldendale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Klickitat Valley Health Hospice. Pastor Kevin Gerchak will officiate and Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
