Lady Wolves upset Granger

INSIDE ADVANTAGE: Cheyenne Smith drives the baseline against Granger. Goldendale exploited their size advantage to upset the Lady Spartans.

Hanging onto a thread of playoff hope, Goldendale’s Lady Timberwolves stepped onto the home court to take on unbeaten and highly regarded Granger, Friday night and came away with a major upset 57-50. A Saturday loss to Zillah coupled with weekend wins by Mabton over Naches Valley and Highland shut the door on Goldendale’s playoff chances, but the win over the Spartans was a late season treat.

Both teams were lacking starters when Granger came to town. The Spartans were missing the league’s leading scorer, Lyndsay Oswalt and post player Brook John. Goldendale had their starting point guard Crysta Counts and multi-position starter Alexis Ladiges sidelined due to injuries. What transpi...
