Local knife-sharpening expert Don McManman is undoing dull blades from all around town for a good cause this month.

“We need a digital mammography machine at the hospital,” McManman says. He’s putting his craft where his mouth is in February, as he sets up shop in the General Store in Goldendale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday in the month and donating half his proceeds to the fund for acquiring a digital mammography machine at KVH, a cause that has garnered significant support in recent years.

McManman learned his sharpening skills aboard commercial fishing vessels, which had to have very sharp blades for processing fish.
