Cougars lose lead and shot at Regionals in Elma


The Lyle-Wishram Cougars couldn’t hold onto a lead during the late stages of their game against Wishkah Valley, Tuesday night in Elma, exiting the combined District 4/5 playoffs with a 51-49 loss.

It was a shaky night for the Cougars, who had trouble striking from outside. The absence of senior swing player, Ricky Wolff, out with a broken ankle, had its effect on the Cougar offense. Still, Lyle-Wishram was in the game from start to finish and had an opportunity to tie the game in the waning seconds.

Lyle-Wishram was ahead by five points with two minutes left in the game. Gavin Baltzell hit a 3-pointer from well beyond the arc and Robert Rodriguez followed up with a basket and free thro...
