Flag volunteerism cheers the city

To the Editor:

What a beautiful surprise to arrive in town around 7:30 a.m., Friday, April 26, and see the American flags flying on every street corner, down Main Street, Broadway, and Columbus. The sun shining on the stars and stripes brought a tear or two to my eye.

Thanks to Kiwanis President Jim Allyn and all the Kiwanians! But why, I wondered are the flags flying today? Did something of monumental consequence happen? A call to Allyn’s Building Center gave me the answer. The Kiwanis are planning on putting out the American Flag once a month, and April 26, Arbor Day, was a good day to begin.
