Records fall as weather heats up

ALL OUT JUMP: Bickleton’s Jamie Venema stretches for every inch in the long jump at Condon, Saturday.

Warm weather brought out the best from Goldendale’s track and field team as they set 36 personal records (PR) over a hectic, three-meet week, 12 PRs at each meet.

Most notable was Briley Cameron’s 11.25 seconds in the 100 meters. It put him ahead of teammate Isaac Messenger as the two have battled back and forth for top time this year. It also puts Cameron sixth best in State 1A; Messenger has 10th best time.

But with action comes risk and Messenger went down with a leg injury on Saturday in Condon, putting in jeopardy his run at the 100 and his chance for State in triple jump and the 4x100 relay. Messenger is the top ranked triple jumper in 1A and the relay team has the second best...
