Cochran recipient of first Athlete of Character Award

MAKING CHARACTER COUNT: Ben Cochran, center, was selected to receive the first Athlete of Character award at the Goldendale High School Purple & Gold Banquet. Cochran was selected from a group of nine athletes who were nominated for the award by their coaches. Cochran was selected for exemplifying the pillars of character that are important for development of youth and athletes. Presenting the award were Purple and Gold Club officers, Briley Cameron, vice president and Zoey Jagelski, secretary.

Ben Cochran was named the first Athlete of Character during Goldendale’s Purple & Gold Donation Dinner and Banquet, Friday. The first time event was presented by the Purple & Gold Club to thank sports program sponsors and recognize this year’s top athletes at Goldendale High School.

Cochran was one of nine juniors and seniors who were nominated for the Athlete of Character award by their coaches. Cochran, a junior was nominated by his football, basketball and baseball coaches. Other nominees were Crysta Counts, Will Bowdish, Kylee Ensey, Britni Bischoff, Dallas Smith, Natalie Hurst, Karissa Ihrig and Sarah Henderson.
