50 Years Ago – July 11, 1963

• Ben Flippin, operator of the Arlington Ferry, will soon put into operation a new 12 car barge, replacing the present one of 8 cars capacity. The ferry now is running 24 hours a day, due to additional traffic.

The barge was built for Flippin at Nichols Boats Works at Hood River. It was brought up-river by the tug “Estrellita,” taking about 18 hours for the trip.

75 Years Ago – July 7, 1938

• Goldendale’s tennis club will meet The Dalles in an inter-city match Sunday. The tennis match will be played on The Dalles city courts. Six singles and three doubles contests will be played during the day. Those from Goldendale making...
