Dan Young big winner at demolition derby

HARD WAY TO START: Kirk Giese, left and Chris Evans opened the demolition derby with a high speed collision in the middle of the arena. The derby was full of hard hits and Evans’ car somehow survived to give him the win in the car division. Dan Young swept all heats in the pick-up truck division.

Dan Young won the first award for hardest hits and it was an easy choice as the driver of the green number 27 pick-up was dealing out savage blows during the Fourth of July, Jaycees Demolition Derby. Young won both of the truck heats and the finals, including a crushing hit on the Tom Herrigton memorial pickup, which was voted fan favorite. The hit was hard enough to knock off a slab of concrete from the course barrier. Young won $200 for the two heat wins, $650 for overall truck winner and $50 for the hardest hits. He was also the time trials winner, which earned him another $50. David Hilton, the driver of the memorial pick-up won $350 and Cody Beeks was third for $250.
