50 Years Ago – July 18, 1963

• A truckload of cherries, parked for a moment beside the highway above Wishram, “took off” by itself while the driver was out of the cab last Thursday morning, and plunged over the edge of the roadway. The brakes apparently slipped enough to allow it to go over, but held enough to stop in its position. Cherries, said to be cull grade, were spilled over the hillside to as much as a depth of 12 inches in spots. This accident happened east of the Wishram intersection with Highway 14.
