School budget increases will have local impact


The Washington State Legislature passed its 2013-2015 budgets on June 30, adding $1 billion to the funds for education. In the end, this means approximately $16.7 billion are going to Washington schools.

These funds are aiding schools locally by restoring teacher’s salaries that were cut by 1.9 percent and administrative salaries that were cut by 3 percent. Another gain for schools is for full-day kindergarten to be available, and learning assistance will be more accessible. K-3 class sizes will be reduced and transportation will be bolstered with the funding that is now available.
