Grinders come up short, lose sweep to Blazers

The Goldendale Grinders dropped a pair of games to the Milton-Freewater Blazers, Saturday as summer baseball got underway last week for the Babe Ruth senior team.

The Blazers’ Lance Thacker handcuffed Goldendale batters, giving up just three hits while striking out seven batters in the opener. Goldendale’s only run came in the sixth inning after Ben Cochran reached base on an error by the third baseman and eventually came home on an error by the center fielder. Zach Cully led off the fifth inning with a double, but was gunned down at third by the pitcher fielding a Reuben Finn bunt. The Blazers scored five runs in the third inning with two outs.
