Martha Kay Schuster

Obituary

Born July 9, 1945 in Hood River Oregon. On July 17, 2013 at the age of 68, after a short battle with cancer, Martha was welcomed to heaven by her father Cecil Schuster and her mother Nellie Schuster. She was the beloved mother of Todd Niva and wife Lori, Jacquie Dean and husband Doug and Rachel Kahler and husband Dwayne. Also survived by her dear sister Carrie and brother Jim. Forever remembered by her adored grandchildren: Aaron, Justin, Carlye, Hayden, Macie and Jordyn.

Martha was daddy’s little girl, she enjoyed hauling sheep to Portland with him and overnight stays in the big city. She grew up on a 1000 acre ranch in Goldendale, Wash., on which she and her cousins rode their horses from one end of the ranch to the other and to visit neighboring farms. Martha was very active at Goldendale High School. She was a cheerleader for three years and Homecoming queen her senior year.

It is with great sadness that we lose an inspirational beacon of light. Martha gave directly from her heart to help others on a daily basis. She had an infectious laugh that warmed the soul. She was an accomplished professional with a Master of Science in Career Development. She helped untold number of students and professionals reach their potential. She chaired professional conferences, founded intern-training programs and taught graduate level coursework at Sacramento State University.

Martha loved life! She enjoyed warm family and friend gatherings, Cabo vacations, staying fit and hanging out at athletic events with her grandchildren. She was generous with a deep faith and compassion for others. She volunteered helping long term unemployed adults regain their dignity and direction. She supported the dreams of others and never backed down on a dream of her own.

Please join family and friends to honor and celebrate Martha’s life Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Centerville Cemetery. Barbeque/potluck reception to follow at Todd and Lori Niva’s home: 107 NW 2nd St. in Goldendale. Condolences may be made to Bayside Church Memorial Fund C/O Martha Schuster at PO Box 2336, Granite Bay, CA 95746 for Career Coaching Scholarships.

Martha will be dearly missed but her spirit and legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren and friends.
