City should stop playing God

Letter to the Editor


To the Editor:

I see the city of Goldendale wants to log our watershed. On Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. at the City Council meeting, they will be accepting public comment on the proposed project.

I must question the wisdom of the engineers who advocate this logging of the watershed. Won’t disrupting the surface cause erosion and affect the quality of the springs? Do we want skidders, dozers, and trucks disturbing the natural lay of the land? What if it affects our water supply of the future?

Trees act as a hydraulic pump and bring water closer to the surface, sucking it from deep down. Cut down the trees, and the natural pumping action stops, and the springs don’t replenish themselves. Trees als...
