Animal safety was a focus during fire


When evacuating for the fire, people get out first, of course, but not everyone thinks of the animals that have to be evacuated as well. After the Monastery Complex Fire, people were more cautious and aware of how quickly a fire could spread and endanger people, so this time around, with the Mile Marker 28 fire, measures were taken to ensure that no human or animal was harmed. Julie Vance directed the animal evacuations and helped find suitable facilities to house the animals until it was safe for them to return home.

“I’m just glad to help whoever I could,” says Vance.
