Luminaria ceremony can be moving

To the Editor:

On Sept. 7 at 10 p.m., the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will hold a Luminaria Ceremony at the Goldendale High School Track. The community is invited to attend this special remembrance ceremony, which is often the most impressive part of a Relay event. It is a quiet reverent time that concludes with everyone walking around the track in silence, lit only by the glow of small white paper bags.

Luminaria bags are symbols of hope found at every Relay For Life event. They are personalized to honor those touched by cancer who were, and are, an important part of our lives. Each bag honors a person with a cancer story to tell. They are our parents, siblings, spouses,...
