Twohy era returns to Goldendale

BACK IN CHARGE: Chris Twohy puts his Timberwolf players through their first two-a-day practice, Monday. Much of last year’s team and coach staff returns, but expect to see some changes on the field under the new head coach.

Optimism at the start of a sports season is standard fare. After all, it might be hard to get players to give their all if the attitude is dismal on day one of practice. So, optimism was in the air again at Goldendale, but this wasn’t the whistling in the dark kind of optimism, it was real and is based on a few numbers and more importantly, on summer performance.

First the encouraging numbers are 50-52 players. That’s a good number, particularly in the face of declining enrollment at Goldendale. Last year’s varsity squad listed 26 players, so between varsity and junior varsity, the numbers should be at least equal to last year. Maybe more reason for optimism is that there are eight...
