Competition is personal in cross country

It’s been a little while since Goldendale had a cross country runner make it to the State meet. Addie Christensen was there in 2009 and Asa Israel and Conner Harris last made it for the boys in 2008. Three seniors will make their final attempt this year, but State isn’t the measure of their success; for runners, the measure of success is personal.

Runners run their own race at their own pace. Improvement is their measure of success and the pride in commitment to get up each day and run. How one finishes in a race is largely out of an individual’s hands. Unlike some sports, luck or errors don’t play much of a role in running.
