Cross-county rivalry this Friday in Goldendale

AT SPEED: Kyle Wilkins got the call for the opening play at Goldendale’s scrimmage, Friday evening. Wilkins is one of several strong running backs who give Goldendale experience in their running game. One of the goals of the scrimmage, according to head coach Chris Twohy, was to give the team some practice at game speed, prior to playing their opening game against Columbia-White Salmon this Friday in Goldendale.

It doesn’t carry the weight of a major rivalry since the two teams play in different leagues, but there is something at stake in this Friday’s cross-county football game with Columbia-White Salmon visiting Goldendale. Not only are they the only 1A football programs in the county, they are the only football programs in the county, at least for now while Lyle-Wishram sits out the eight man program. Players from Lyle and Wishram currently play for Columbia. Since the rivalry was rekindled in 2003, Goldendale has a 6-4 edge, thanks to a four game winning streak.
