50 Years Ago – October 31, 1963

• Congresswoman Catherine May told those assembled Monday at the Grange Hall that a proposed Soviet wheat purchase represents “a dangerous change in our national policy.” Representative May touched on the next most likely possibilities for a second step in our changed foreign policies, which she said included the joint Soviet-U.S. man flight to the moon venture suggested by the president, the sale of wheat to the Soviets, and a pact to bar orbiting of nuclear weapons in space.
