Election 2013: city council, hospital district seats up; I-522 sets new spending record

More than $27 million spent, $21 million by ‘No on 522’ Committee


Election Day is next Tuesday, and many are still trying to make their way through the state’s voters’ pamphlet. Following is a brief summary of election information for this region.



522 is the big one this year, having set a record for the most money ever spent on an initiative in the history of Washington state. Close to $28 million—easily surpassing the funds spent to pass the private liquor sales initiative—has been spent on the total campaign. The No on 522 campaign alone spent $21 million of that sum, much of it from out-of-state biochemical companies such as Monsanto and a large portion coming from the food-industry political action committee Grocery Manufa...
