Cougars beat Pirates in playoff for District berth

STAYING ALIVE: Winter Keeling-Burgin returns a ball against Trout Lake in a crucial match that kept the Cougar hopes alive for District competition.

Lyle-Wishram claimed the final spot in the District 5, 1B volleyball tournament after eliminating Bickleton in a tie-breaker match played in Klickitat on Tuesday. The Cougars and Pirates were closely matched during league play with Lyle-Wishram winning 3-1 in Lyle and Bickleton fighting to a 3-2 win just over a week ago in Bickleton. Tuesday's tie-breaker went to the Cougars by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-9, 25-10. The Cougars had more fire power with hard shots from Mandy Solomon and unreturnable serves from Lacy Carse and Caity Showalter.
