Dispatch center, radio system set to go

OPENING SOON: The new emergency dispatch center on S. Columbus is nearing completion. The interior (below) has desks for dispatchers and their computer equipment with views northward.

Work is nearing completion on the new emergency services system for Klickitat County, with the dispatch center on S. Columbus set to have equipment installed, weeks and millions of dollars over budget.

County Emergency Services director Ed Powell says everything looks good for meeting the deadline for having the new system in place.

"We had some setbacks in completion of the building," Powell says, "but they've given us permission to go ahead and start installing some of the equipment we need to install to meet our deadline."

That deadline is Dec. 16. Federal policies require counties to go a new short-band radio system as of Dec. 31.
