Barbee Bellows



Barbee Lee Nesbitt Bellows passed away in Nevada City, CA on November 8, 2013.

Barbee was born in Bellingham, WA on May 6, 1929.  She married Howard Arthur Bellows on June 10, 1950 at the Maryhill Castle near Goldendale, Washington. Barbee and her husband, Howard, lived in several different states from New York to Arizona to Utah to Kansas as he pursued his career in higher education. Barbee graduated with a BA from Kansas State Teacher's College while her children were young. They subsequently moved to Minnesota where Dr. Bellows was the founding president of Southwest State College (now Southwest Minnesota State University). Barbee taught Home Economics in various towns near Marshall.

Barbee enjoyed duplicate bridge (Life Master), painting, cross-stitch, and spending time with friends and family.

Barbee was predeceased by her husband, Howard Arthur Bellows, mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. George Blackburn Nesbitt (Beatrice), and sister, Ida Christine Nesbitt Johnson.

Barbee is lovingly remembered by children, Marcia Jean Bellows Kalama (Tony) of Kihei, Maui, HI, Scott Howard Bellows (Susan) of Newberry, SC, Lance Nesbitt Bellows (Susan) of Nevada City, CA, and Sonja Christine Bellows Porter (Chris) of Antelope, CA; grandchildren, Kapono Howard Akina, Kona Christine Akina, Chandler Bellows Tower, Robert Howard Bellows, Martha Whitney Bellows, Greta Beatrice Bellows, Ryan David Porter, and Lauren Michelle Porter; great-grandchildren; Kelsey Lane Buckley, James Tyler Buckley, and Mia Hope Bellows; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, 301 NW 2nd Street, Goldendale, WA in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
