Centerville woman caught in full fury of Philippines typhoon

STRONGEST TYPHOON TO HIT LAND: Many experts are calling it the strongest storm to ever make landfall. Electric lines lie exposed on the street in the aftermath of Hainan in Carigara.

A visit to the Philippines to deal with some housing issues put a Centerville woman, literally into the eye of a storm, as typhoon Hainan swept across Leyte Island on Nov. 8.

Had she been aware of what was headed her way, Edie Randall might have been worried. Randle survived a harrowing night and a week of hardship before deciding to return to the states, unharmed by what has been called the strongest typhoon ever to reach land.

Rich and Edie Randall went to the Philippines on Sept. 15, to work out the sale of the home they own in Carigara, a town of about 46,000 located about 500 miles southeast of Manila. Edie was born in Carigara prior to the end of World War II and has relatives who s...
