Area teams launch basketball season at Goldendale Jamboree

ITCHING FOR BASKETBALL: A good crowd was on hand as area players got their first taste of competition after nearly two weeks of preparation for this year's basketball season. Goldendale's Zara Kartes takes the ball back outside around teammate Malisa Barrier, with Kirstin Twohy in the background. Defending for the Columbia-White Salmon Bruins are Corrie Brending (40), Kayla McClain (10) and Kirstin Hylton (52).

Area high school teams were back in action on the hardwood courts at Goldendale, last Saturday in the first Goldendale basketball jamboree. Teams from Stevenson, Columbia-White Salmon and Goldendale squared off against each other in six, 10-minute games.

The first two games were in strong contrast as girls and boys teams from Stevenson and Columbia took to the courts. Kirstin Hylton hit a pair of buckets from the paint to lead the Bruin girls to a 9-2 win over the Stevenson Bulldogs.

Game two started with a bang as the Bulldogs' Brandon Albrecht knocked down a three-pointer on the opening shot of a fast paced game to lead Stevenson to a 27-23 win. Both teams ran the floor well in a wide-o...
