To the Editor:

Some thoughts for the author of a recent letter saying that he couldn't see coal dust coming off of coal trains and that those who said they did must be liars:

The coal company admits that hundreds of pounds of coal per car are lost between the loading of the train and the unloading of the train. Where does it go? Much of it likely blows off soon after the trains start their trip west (with toxic effect on the people and land there), but some is surely blown free all along the route. The particles of coal that do damage to human and animal lungs and to crops are very, very small. Could it be they just don't form a cloud that would be visible to someone standing near the tra...
