Wanless receives Community Champion award from WGAP

Community Champion: Washington Gorge Action Program named Goldendale's Brian Wanless the 2013 Community Champion.

Each year, Washington Gorge Action Program accepts nominations from the community to recognize individuals providing extreme acts of service. In the past, Bruce Bolme, Dr. James Ogden, John Mobley and Margret Walker have received awards. This year WGAP Board of Directors recognized Brian Wanless from Goldendale.

Wanless is involved in many community benefit projects, including the Goldendale Soup Kitchen and the Back Pack Program have benefitted from Brian's involvement since they began. He has been with the WSU Horizon's Program since 2006 and has served on the Goldendale Steering Committee for that program. Wanless is a trained AARP volunteer and each year he helps file income tax returns at no cost for families and individuals needing his help. Brian was one of the organizers of a non-profit in Klickitat County called Community Enrichment for Klickitat County (CEKC) serving as a board member and treasurer. He served on the Klickitat Skamania Horizons broadband committee. Due to the committee's efforts, the two counties were awarded $3.7 million to bring middle mile infrastructure to some areas of the rural areas. Wanless is also involved with the local Technology Planning Team.
