Johnston leaves, council warned of 'second civil war'

The Goldendale City Council met Monday evening to finish up some end of the year business and bid farewell to longtime councilman Steve Johnston, who sat his final meeting after 18 years on the council.

During the opening department reports, Police Chief Rick Johnson explained that a breakdown of the police department's D.A.R.E car mid-way through the Candy Cane Lane Parade on Saturday evening may have proved to be fortuitous. The car gave out and was moved off of South Columbus Street and onto West Brooks, stopping just yards from where police now believe a burglary was in progress at an uninhabited building.
