Grapplers in action prep for league matches Thursday in Goldendale


Goldendale split with Warden and Wahluke at Mattawa, Thursday. Just six matches were decided on the mat against Warden who won 59-24. The Timberwolves’ only points came on forfeits as they lost five matches by pin with Leroy Miller at 126 pounds, Nicholas Dix at 132, Colby Valladares at 145, Reggie Sargeant at 220 and Zach Cully at 285. Mark Briggs lost on a technical fall by points at 152 pounds.

Goldendale edged Wahluke 38-30 with pins by Dean Enstad, Ruben Finn and Kyle Wilkins. Briggs won on points at 152 and Jakeb Partlow and Cully each won by forfeit.

The team competed in the Othello invitational on Saturday, placing seventh among the 10 teams. Wilkins and Partlow each placed second to lead the Wolves. Other points came from third place finishes by Enstad, Zane Cully and Joel Jackowski. All but Enstad had 2-1 records. Enstad was 3-1 on the day. Also posting wins were Briggs (3-2), Bryce Wilkins (3-2), Demetrius McCoy (1-2), Ben Wooden (3-2), Cameron Read (1-2), Sargeant (1-2) and Zach Cully (1-2). Also competing with the large Goldendale entry were: Miller, Dix, Valladares, Finn, Michael Jagelski, Daniel Wedgwood, Nic Foss, Trent Radway, Michael Holmes and Jeremy McElroy.

The first of three home matches will be in Goldendale this Thursday at 6 p.m. Goldendale will open league competition in a double-dual meet with Naches Valley and Highland.

The Wolves will also compete this Saturday in the Sundome Invitational in Yakima, starting at 10 a.m.
