Local producer elected to FSA committee

Larry Williams of Goldendale has recently been elected to the Farm Service Agency Klickitat County Committee. He will help direct and implement federal farm programs for the next three years.

“The County Committee system is unique in the federal government,” said Virginia Amidon, County Executive Director. “Larry is going to be a local voice for farmers and ranchers.”

The three-to-five person committees are the place that producers can appeal most agency decisions. Committees also make decisions helping to determine program payments. The committees meet approximately eight times a year.

The committees have a hand in all of FSA’s programs. These include insurance-like programs like the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program. They also oversee conservation program activity, and disaster relief programs that might deal with issues like lack of forage for grazing or loss of animals.

The next meeting of the COC is scheduled for April 9, at 9 a.m. For more information about county committees and the election process, please contact this office or visit
