Tennis players and coaches going extra mile to keep life-time sport at GHS

MAINTENANCE BEFORE PRACTICE: Sophomore player, Robyn Cooke and coach Channon Bighorn chipped away at the old patch job last week. The team removed the old patch from cracks that cross every court at the Goldendale school facility.

With the season in the balance, Channon Bighorn stepped up and was hired to be the Goldendale tennis coach. Bighorn has been an unpaid volunteer, assisting with the team for the past five years. He takes over the head coach job and will be assisted by Duff McAndie.

Goldendale has nine boys returning, including Dakota McAndie who made it to State last year. Four other boys are returning players from last year's squad. The girls also have a good turnout, led by Hannah Hoffman and two other returning players plus four new faces.

Bighorn plans to incorporate technology into his coaching by using video and an application that will give players a chance to compare their swing to pro form on sid...
