Magazine features photo contest

After years of producing a stand-alone special section of The Goldendale Sentinel as a county visitors’ guide, the newspaper is now undertaking a joint project with the Mt. Adams and Greater Goldendale Area Chambers of Commerce to produce a new 2014 Klickitat County visitors’ guide. The project aims to forge a new era of cooperation across the county, with an aim toward increasing tourism.

The guide will build on the success of previous Sentinel guides. Entitled “Journey Through Klickitat County,” the magazine will come out at its customary time, just before Memorial Day. And for the first time, the magazine will feature a cover picture taken by a photographer in the county, to be selected by a contest.

The cover picture contest is open now through May 1, and any photographer in the county is able to submit their work, with a limit of no more than three images from each photographer. The image should be something iconic and beautiful representing Klickitat County, preferably something not commonly seen or shot in some new and striking way.

There are cash prizes for winners of the contest: $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and $50 for third place.

Submissions may be made through either Chamber of Commerce or to The Sentinel at Images can be in any color format (RGB or CMYK typically). For initial consideration, low resolution images are acceptable; selected images will ultimately be required in 300 dpi resolution with a minimal width or height of 700 dpi. Be sure to include all contact information as well as information about the picture itself.

The chambers and The Sentinel will retain the right to use selected images in the visitors’ guide and additional promotional materials aimed at increasing tourism in Klickitat County.
