Gran Fondo a grand time for Klickitat County visitors

THE EASY PART: A group of riders cruise along Pine Forest Road during the early stages of the Gran Fondo Goldendale, Sunday.

Ninety-four riders took the grand tour of central Klickitat County on Sunday via bicycle in the first Gran Fondo Goldendale, promoted by Jake and Karen Maedke, of Vicious Cycle promotions, Ephrata. The tour covered about 90 miles with 88 of the riders completing the entire circuit.

Rusty Dodge, of Bellingham, was first to finish the ride, which isn't technically a race, in a time of 4-hours, 52-minutes, 30.05-seconds. His nearest competitor, Mike Rolcik was the only other rider to finish under five hours with a time of 4:59:51.64. There were 10 women who completed the full ride. Jennifer Burtner, of Olympia, was 24th across the finish line in 5:45:08.78.
