Moms honored with senior tea, brunches

Glenwood News

This year students from Glenwood and Klickitat had a bit of a different format for their prom. Glenwood’s students travelled to Klickitat for a short dance and crowning of the respective kings and queens. The prom court from Glenwood consisted of Queen Tamaira Huffsmith, princesses Kaylee Feller, Reyauna Guzman and Marisela Hernandez; King Jonathan Throop, and princes Greg Dechand and Kenny Henderson. Following the dance students from both schools rode the bus to Oaks Park amusement park and roller rink in Portland. Reports are that everyone who went on to Oaks Park had a good time.

Miss Josie Masden became Mrs. Laine Baze on May 3 as she and Laine were united in marriage in Goldendale. Congratulations and best wishes to Laine and Josie for a happily ever after life together!

Glenwood’s 11th and 12th graders have been working hard all year on their junior and senior projects that are requirements for graduation. The fruits of their labors will be presented to the community on Wednesday, May 7, in the multipurpose room at 6 p.m.

This week educators are being honored during Teacher’s Appreciation Week. Certified teachers at Glenwood School include Claire Alexander, Debbie Allaway, Jay Anderson, Tom Anderson, Paul Demchuk, Aaron Oldenburg, Lisa Parsons, Bridget McLaughlin, Laryssa Scheepers and Charlotte Webb. Make the opportunity to thank the teachers who help prepare our students for the world after school.

Mothers everywhere will be treated specially this coming Sunday for Mother’s Day. In Glenwood there are a couple of really nice traditions for mothers as well. A Senior Tea is scheduled to honor mothers and grandmothers of graduating seniors on Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m. in the gym. Forrest Putnam and Mrs. Allaway will be the featured entertainment and public school employees will provide refreshments. All moms are invited to attend the afternoon event. Thank you to Eileen Brashers and Anita Wellenbrock for organizing this year’s tea.

Men from the Pioneer Memorial Community Church will pamper all community mothers with a complimentary brunch on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The gentlemen will prepare and serve a delicious breakfast to the ladies. All ladies are invited. Also, in addition to breakfast, entertainment will be provided.

New this year, the Glenwood Inn is preparing a Mother’s Day brunch as well. The brunch will be served from 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday, May 11 – and reservations are not required. This is a chance to give mom a break from cooking on her special day. Happy Mother’s Day to moms everywhere!

Glenwood’s students will be performing during the Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. in the gym. Community members are invited to watch the children sing, dance and play musical instruments during the performance.

State school assessments will be held from May 13 through May 30. Make sure your students eat a good breakfast and are well-rested in preparation for the MSP, HSPE and EOC testing. Because many of these tests cannot be made up – daily attendance is very important during the students’ testing.

Doug Daniels reported that Glenwood received 1.95 inches of April showers to help bring on our May flowers. Our 19-year average rainfall for April is 1.3 inches; while the highest was 3.31 inches in 2011 and the lowest was 0.2 inches in 2009. Speaking of May flowers, have you noticed the yellow blanket of flowers growing up through the grass on the Conboy Wildlife Refuge? It is always fun to watch the changing colors on the lake bottom throughout the spring. Coming up next the yellow will be replaced by purple as the Camas flowers bloom. So pretty!

Duane Dewey is wished well following his surgery on Monday.
