Lyle school receives $641,960 grant with strings attached


Lyle Middle School is one of 13 schools that are to receive School Improvement Grants (SIG), according to an announcement by Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Randy Dorn. But, the dollars come with strings attached. According to a press release by Dorn’s office, schools are required to select from one of the following four options:

• Turnaround: Replace the principal, rehire no more than 50 percent of the staff.

• Restart: Convert the school or close and reopen it under a charter school operator, a charter management organization or an education management organization.

• School closure: Close the school and enroll the students who attended that school in othe...
