Daniel Wallenmeyer



Daniel Wallenmeyer, 81, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Hawks Ridge in Hood River. Daniel was born April 28, 1932 in Evansville, Indiana to Mindie (Madden) and William A. Wallenmeyer.

Daniel grew up in Evansville, graduating from high school in 1949. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and served four years as a Crew Chief in armament during the Korean War. On July 18, 1954, he married Patricia Anne Fisher in Vancouver, Washington. He then continued his education at Washington State University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture in 1959.

During Daniel’s career life, he worked in the Goldendale and Yakima, Washington areas and served as the District Conservationist for the USDA Soil and Water Conservation Service in Ritzville, Washington; Canyon City, Oregon; and McMinnville, Oregon; retiring after 28 years. During this time he developed and implemented numerous soil and water conservation projects with farmers, ranchers, orchardists, and vineyard growers. He was a key participant in the Grant County Range Validation Program, numerous streambank and habitat protection projects, and in developing soil cover crops to prevent erosion in the newly established vineyard and winery industry in Yamhill County. He also served as the Weed Control Supervisor for Skamania County, Washington for several additional years.

Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, reading, his career and his family. Most of all, he was devoted to his family. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Stevenson, Washington.

Daniel is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 60 years, Patricia; son Jesse and wife Roxie of Beaverton, Oregon; son Lewis and wife Crystal of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter Patricia McClelland and husband Steve of Cove, Oregon; daughter Susan Bowdish and husband Dean of Goldendale, Washington; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother George Wallenmeyer.

A celebration of life and mid-day potluck picnic will be held by family and friends at the community park in North Bonneville, Washington on July 19.

The family encourages memorials to The Wounded Warrior Project in Daniel’s name. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
