Coal transport in the Gorge, topic of panel discussion


There will be a public forum addressing coal rail traffic in Klickitat County and the Columbia Gorge, Monday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the White Salmon library. Panel members include Ed Powell, Director of Klickitat County Emergency Management, Jasmine Zimmer-Stucky, Community Organizer for Columbia Riverkeeper, and Dave Mulligan, professional engineer with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Powell is responsible for preparation of hazards related to trains and other modes of transportation. His department has been working on preparing for a potential hazard of an oil train mishap at Bingen Point.
