Council moves on reservoir project



BAD SIGN: The issue of illegally placed campaign signs came up at Monday's Goldendale city council meeting. This sign for candidate Ben Shoval, placed on a state highway sign, is an example of such placement. The sign, and others out of compliance, has been removed.

Monday's Goldendale city council meeting gave special emphasis to volunteers.

The meeting began with Nate Block, President of the Firefighters Association, reporting that his organization had received a grant from the Yakama Tribe. "We asked for $3,000," Block said, "and they gave us $5,000." The money will be used to purchase three sets of structure gear, which does not include helmets, boots, or gloves, for the fire department. Chief Rick Johnson congratulated the group for their dedication in securing grants. "They're a volunteer organization, separate from the fire department, and they do this entirely on their own," Johnson said. "My hat is off to them."
