Summer dangerous time for kids and dogs

DEADLY COMBO: Black dog + summer + car = danger. Kids and pets can be injured during the summer if left in cars. Any color of dog will have trouble in a hot car. Kids should never be left in a car.

Goldendale Police remind people to look out for the safety of children and animals during the warm weather. Small children should not be left alone in a car without immediate supervision at any time, particularly during hot weather.

Temperatures in closed cars can quickly rise to over 100 degrees during even moderate temperatures. A study published in Pediatrics journal in 2005, showed that temperatures can rise rapidly inside cars, even if the windows are cracked open. The study showed that on the average, temperature can rise about 40 degrees within an hour when the outside temperature is between 72 and 96 degrees and 80 percent of the increase occurs in the first 30 minutes.
