Woman drowns at Lyle Point


A 61 year old Toppenish woman drowned at Lyle Point on Monday night, according to the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) public information officer, Pat Kaley. Lyle first responders were dispatched to the boat launch at 11:05 p.m. as a car was reported to have been driven into the Columbia River. KCSO deputies described the scene as “chaos” with friends and families of Cheryl E. Moses, scrambling to rescue the woman from the submerged car.

KCSO Marine Patrol, Skamania County Sheriff’s Office dive team and Intertribal Fisheries Commission personnel assisted in recovering Moses and the vehicle from 12 feet of water about 40 feet from the boat launch.
