50 Years Ago - July 2, 1964

The first bucket of concrete to go into the John Day Dam powerhouse structure was poured Friday morning with appropriate ceremonies by the Corps of Engineers and contractors who are constructing the powerhouse. The ceremony was scheduled to be held at 10 a.m., but was delayed because of the wind which prevented the airplane which was bringing the party from Walla Walla from landing on the airstrip on the north side of the river. They had to go to The Dalles airport to set the plane down and then return to the dam site by car.
