Tour bus of teens in SR97 accident, six with minor injuries

STRANDED: Passengers were stranded on the roadside for a couple of hours after their bus was disabled following a collision with a pick-up on SR97, four miles south of Goldendale. Six of the passengers of the tour bus were transported to KVH for treatment of minor injuries, according to Washington State Patrol.

A tour bus loaded with teenagers had their trip disrupted on Saturday when a pick-up truck that had pulled to the side of the road came back onto the highway and collided with the right front of the bus, sending it across SR 97 to the edge of the ditch.

The accident occurred around 3:25 p.m., four miles south of Goldendale. Both vehicles were northbound at the time of the accident.

According to the State Patrol, Chayse J. Erickson, 18, of Liberty Hill, Texas pulled to the side of the road in a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up. The bus, driven by Robert D. Lemke, of University Place was passing the pick-up when Erickson came back onto the highway and struck the bus.
