Messer and Haines win events and West titles at rock crawl in Goldendale

WINNING RUN: Matt Messer, of Fresno, Calif. works his way through a gate during the shoot out in Goldendale's WE Rock rock crawling competition. Messer won the Unlimited class.

Tie-breakers decided the West championship of the WE Rock professional series rock crawling, held at Broken Boulder Ranch, north of Goldendale last weekend. The battle in the unlimited class came down to Californians Matt Messer, of Fresno versus Justin Hall, of Antioch. Messer needed to finish ahead of Hall to unseat the Antioch driver as the Western Series champion. Each man had a win in the three event series coming into Goldendale, but Hall had a second place finish at Rangely, Colorado and Messer was third at Congress, Arizona, giving Hall a one point lead.
