Despite blistering heat, attendance up at Trout Lake Fair

One of the summer’s most important events happened here last weekend in Trout Lake, and that’s the Trout Lake Fair! What a great, albeit scorching hot, weekend it was too.

The weekend was kicked off up at Elk Meadows on Friday night with all the yummy homemade dishes that were brought to the community potluck. The food was added to by the wonderful music and Contra dancing that was had. Saturday is when it all happened though.

First, there was the fireman’s breakfast with the “world’s best” huckleberry pancakes. It was quite the packed event. They served nearly 600 people! That was followed by the family fun, 5k, and 10k runs that saw a great turn out over at Jonah Ministries.

What would a fair be without a parade? Leading the procession was this year’s Honored Citizen, Aimee Woodruff. A true testament to her giving nature and community pride, she was accompanied by seven year-old Cayden Whitaker, his care dog, Stella, and his mother Julie. Cayden received Stella in part through the support of community fundraising efforts. The rest of the parade was a spectacular event with fire trucks, animals, and dancers!

After all the excitement of the morning, more food, refreshment and games were a welcome addition to the day. Held at Jonah Ministries the zip line, and climbing wall were busy all day, and the Timber Carnival was great as always. I’m sure all the winners of the delicious baked goods from the auction are enjoying their Trout Lake treats. Thank you to all of the organizers, volunteers, and participants of all this year’s events. It was a great community occasion as always.

Just a reminder from our fire chief, that there is a burn ban in effect. No backyard campfires are allowed; with as dry as this season has been let’s all do our part to keep the valley fire free!
