50 Years Ago - August 20, 1964

The SDS Lumber Co. and the Boise-Cascade Corp. sponsored a porcupine bounty hunt. The contest ended July 31, and during the contest 1,235 porcupines were killed in the county, 567 east of the Klickitat River and 668 west. J. E. Moon, Appleton, was the champion with 246 noses turned in. Eddie Bean, Goldendale, was close runner-up with 241 noses. A bounty of 50 cents per nose was paid to all that took part in the contest.
